Messages:

Grant applications are to be submitted in English.

Objectives:

The ROMFORSKNING programme is designed to support Norwegian space-related activities under the European Space Agency (ESA), the European Incoherent Scatter (EISCAT) Scientific Association and the Nordic Optical Telescope (NOT) Scientific Association. The programme is intended to enhance and further develop basic research in the context of Norway's membership of these organisations. The primary objective of the programme is to generate essential, basic knowledge about outer space by increasing understanding of fundamental physical processes, and by developing the necessary technological tools. Research activities under the programme also encompass near space, i.e. interactions between cosmic radiation, processes on the sun, solar wind and the Earth's upper atmosphere.

Funding is also available for basic research on Earth observation.

This programme/activity normally accepts grant applications from:

Universities and university colleges, and independent research institutes.

Duration:

2003-2010

Overall budget:

In recent years the annual budget has totalled NOK 12-13 million. An additional NOK 3 million has been earmarked for Earth observation projects. The size of the budget from 2011 will depend on whether or not the programme is continued.
