Researcher mobility is essential to Norway's ability to maintain access to the international playing field. The Research Council gives priority to increasing the number of Norwegian researchers who spend time at R&D institutions abroad as well as the proportion of foreign researchers who carry out part of their research in Norway.
The International Scholarship Section (IS) promotes the exchange of advanced students and researchers within the framework of bilateral cultural agreements, scholarship and networking programmes for mobility and research cooperation activities between Norway and some 30 other countries.
We offer Yggdrasil mobility grants to foreign PhD students and younger post docs for studies and research in Norway and fund researcher mobility and networking between institutions from Norway and their counterparts in many other countries. The greater majority of our programmes encompasses all subjects areas.

Norway is a full member of the EU 7th Framework Programme for RTD (FP7). For this reason, doctoral students from all of the world can apply for a funded stay at one of the institutions which was awarded a Marie Curie actions Research Training Network (RTN) or a Early Stage Training fellowship in the FP6.
